Flintstones Weekend Comics, April 1970

The writers at Hanna-Barbera tossed all kinds of cartoon characters into the mix with fairy tales, so why not the Flintstones? Thus Gramps sees the Three Little Pigs in the April newspaper comics 49 years ago.

My thanks to Richard Holliss for the colour version of the April 13th comic.

  1. For that first strip, can Yogi Bear and a Phil Silvers-inspired wolf be far behind?

  4. There's something I thought I'd never see - a completed version of "Cans Without Labels".

  5. Concerning what at least one of the pigs wore in the first comic strip, what if My Gym Partner's a Monkey had a story about a prehistoric version of Charles Darwin Middle School with dinosaurs, sabertooth cats, woolly elephants, etc. wearing cave suits?

  6. It's great to see Betty, Barney, and Bamm-Bamm in the April 12th strip. Their appearances in the comic strip became increasingly rare in the 70's.

The April 19th one is a situation every adult can relate to, especially at this time of the year!

The April 5th strip is not the only Flintstones-Three Little Pigs connection. On the Hanna-Barbera Records album "Flip Fables," Mel Blanc as Barney Rubble narrates the story of "The Three Little Pigs." It's hilarious!

Thank you, Richard, for the color version!

I also note that all of the strips are full three-tier format this month! Hooray!

  7. "Cave Pigs" sounds like an idea for a Flintstones spin-off that they missed out on.

  8. I like how the strip spares us from the details of yet another episode where Fred & Wilma pretend to break-up for the 33rd time and just cuts to the aftermath. It'd be if "The Honeymooners" did an episode that began with Alice adjusting to life on the Moon..
