Huckleberry Hound in To the Moon!

Huckleberry Hound is going to be the first hound to blast off to the moon, he tells us, in this little cartoon-between-the-cartoons on The Huckleberry Hound Show.

You can see some of Huck’s mouth positions when he says “hound.” In the bumpers, he always raised his head as Daws Butler made a baying-like sound.

Some nice poses on Yogi as he scoots into the frame. Is Ed Love the animator here? His work is much more fluid than it was in the cartoons.

Huck didn’t quite make it to his destination. (Well, he only said he was going to “blast off” to the moon. He didn’t promise to get there.) But he wouldn’t miss the next Yogi Bear cartoon for the moon.

From the moon to the White House. This is a 1960 TV ad that was tied into Huck’s presidential (aka publicity) campaign that year.

We’ll have another Huck bumper next month.

  1. Huck's face is expressive, even if the body stays immobile, but the full-body movement just in the poses on Yogi is the impressive part here, including not just his body movement towards the action, but also the motion of his tie as well, which moves to match the poses. That's a true Hanna-Babera rarity.

  2. Love the advertisement. Growing up, I lived in Hampton, Virginia, and in the early days of cable, we received WTTG-5, Metromedia Television out of D.C.

  3. This isn't related to this particular post, but in one of the Huckleberry Hound Show bumpers titled "Huck the Fireman." There's a song accompanying the bumper in the background, and I've been trying to find it. Do you have a clue what it is?

Here's a link to the video:

    1. Anon, it's simply the Huck theme combined with the Pixie and Dixie and (original) Yogi Bear themes. I don't know what Hoyt Curtin named it but it would have been written for the 1958-59 season.

    2. Thank you very much

    3. Any updates on what it can possibly be as I'm still trying to find it? Like what's the name of it?

    4. It's on disc one of the Pic-a-nic Basket set that came out some years ago.

    5. Thank you very much I appreciate it!
