It seems that, eventually, every Hanna-Barbera cartoon ended one of two ways. Either characters would laugh uproariously before the camera faded out, or one character would chase another against a repeating background. The chase never ends.
With that in mind, here’s a sped-up version of an eternal chase from the ending of “Droop-a-Long Yogi” (1962). The run in the cartoon is six drawings on twos. We’ve only posted one drawing apiece. Watch this any time you’re in the mood to see the ending of a Hanna-Barbera cartoon—except the ending never comes!!
Put an endless loop of Loose-Seely chase music over it, and you're good to go for eternity.
ReplyDeleteI believe you're onto something here, Yowp. This could be the first in a series of H-B chase loop GIFs. You could post one every so often whenever the urge strikes you. What's more, they make nifty avatars!
ReplyDeleteI've done some of Carlo's shake takes before, Anon. And I did a Dixie walk cycle by Mike Lah. Unfortunately, most of my animated GIFs were linked from other sources that killed them (Blogger didn't allow me to upload animated GIFs back then).
ReplyDeleteThe problem with a run/walk cycle is two-fold. The cycle will look jerky because the background drawing won't repeat properly. And with a lot of these cartoons, I've got to mask the TV channel bug and the colours don't match from drawing to drawing.
