Quick Draw on TV?

It would appear fans of Quick Draw McGraw will be able to see the series on TV once again. Eventually.

An announcement on this web site says:

Tubi has confirmed a list of 100 different series from Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network that are joining the free service. The ones in bold join on March 1st. The rest presumably will rollout afterwards.

The Quick Draw McGraw Show is not in bold, so it's anyone's guess when it may appear. It's also your guess whether they will be old TV prints of the cartoons, or if they'll be newly restored, or if they'll be the full half-hours with the interactive bits between Quick Draw and the stars of the other parts of show.

I have no direct knowledge but the appearance may be dependent on Warner's efforts to remaster the cartoons. I thin'.

The list, by the way, also includes Top Cat and The Yogi Bear Show but nothing else before 1961. Still, the announcement will give viewers more cartoons than they can possibly watch.

It certainly would be interesting to see how Baba Louie's "Queeksdraw" dialect and El Kabong go over with contemporary viewers.

  2. This is an interesting list. I see they have Snagglepuss listed separately from THE YOGI BEAR SHOW. I will have to check it out on March 1st. They have all the episodes of COLUMBO, so it can’t be too bad.

  3. I noticed that Greg. And no Yakky. I'm not certain what that means.

  4. Surprising considering the rights issues. Probably means they solved it

    1. I know they've been working on it. Quick Draw should be easier to clear than Huck because there are few Loose cues and more Phil Green cues. I don't believe they're a problem. The Shaindlin cues were.

  5. I’d like to see Captain Caveman’s episode with Futuro, the time-traveler from the present (not to be confused with the Jetsons).

    1. But ol'Cavey's not part of the Quick Draw Show or even that Kellogg-Screen Gems era lol! This is certainly good news.

  6. While the shows are not available on Tubi in Canada, I am glad to see this news.

As Greg had mentioned I was surprised to see 'Snagglepuss' and 'Ricochet Rabbit' as separate entries instead of being featured apart from their respective shows. It would be much easier to present the shows in their original format, especially considering the time and expense already devoted to reconstructing that format.

It’s also odd seeing 'Quick Draw McGraw' listed without 'Snooper and Blabber' or 'Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy.'

It’s also confusing regarding the music rights. I've forgotten the specific composer's name, but on the now-defunct 'Golden Age Cartoons' forum, the late Earl Kress mentioned the heirs of one of the 'needle drop' composers were asking for more money than the music was originally worth.

  7. The original 1958-61 Yogi cartoons have been on Tubi for some time now.

  8. I was hoping you'd have something about this! Just saw the full release list. A lot of them look separated out from the three shorts in one half hour episode which was how they had them (Magilla Gorilla and the Scooby and Scrappy shorts for instance) available on the Boomerang App before it folded into Max. I imagine that is how these will be broadcast. Hopefully the ads will fall in the right places and not in the middle of a short. The Boomerang App was the best version of streaming there could be as far as use and content. Maybe there will be enough views on these to get the finance guys to consider remastering things for physical release. Doubtful, but hopeful.
