Flintstones Weekend Comics, April 1964

Someone at Hanna-Barbera was sure fixated on mastodons/mammoths/elephants 50 years ago this month, as one or the other is in three of the four Flintstone Sunday comics. The drawings of all of them are very funny.

I’ve been unable to find a version with all three rows for April 26th.

April 5, 1964.

April 12, 1964.

April 19, 1964.

April 26, 1964.

Please click on any of the comics to enlarge them.

  1. I wonder if Waldo is the father of Woolly, who was Pebbles' pet when she was a teenager. There seems to be a family resemblance.

Interesting how the theme of animals runs through this month's selection. Makes me wonder how these comics were plotted out--and how the decisions were made as far as the order in which they appeared.

The date of April 1964 reminds me that the New York World's Fair was getting ready to open around this time...which a certain stone-age family would soon visit...

Thanks again, Yowp! It's Christmas twice a month, between these and the Yogi strips. I for one can't get enough. Thanks for persevering with this. And thanks for everything you post! Always starts my day off right...or closes it out right.

    Cheers!

  2. Actually, there's a mammoth/mastodon in all four of these. Note the one peeking through the doorway in the vet's office in the April 12 strip.
