Flintstones Comics, February 1965

One of the fun things about “The Flintstones” on TV was an animal-turned-into-an-appliance turning to the audience and saying some tired crack about its job. We almost get that in the Flintstones daily comics 50 years ago today. But there’s not enough space. Wilma just shows off the pelican disposal to Betty, who replies “What will they think of next?” (It’s a punch-line that turned up occasionally in the dailies about this time).

I’ve also included the weekend comics. I can’t find a February 28th comic with the top row. Are the weekend comics by Dick Bickenbach? The first one looks like it to me.

Dino isn’t talking this month (other than a couple of “Gleef!”s), but he’s still tolerating abuse by the talking-to-herself Pebbles.

  1. Wow. Pebbles even made the dailies unfunny.

  2. So, the complete material of the Flintstones comic strip from February 1965.
The daily strips were drawn by Gene Hazelton; and the Sunday pages were drawn by Dick "Bick" Bickenbach.

  3. Is it my imagination or does Mr. Stoner, the grocer, look like Bill Hanna?

    1. Indeed, he does look very much like Bill Hanna. It didn't even occur to me the first time I read the strip, but now that you mention it, I'd say he looks almost exactly like Bill Hanna. So, it's probably a caricature, not a coincidence. Good catch!

  4. Both the golf pro and the hunting guide look a little like George Jetson.

The new hat/down in the dumps gag was recycled later with the teen versions of Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles in "The Flintstone Comedy Hour."

  5. In the Flintstones daily strip from February 10, 1965 (drawn by Gene Hazelton), the fish shown at this strip looks like a barracuda, right?

  6. Look how come Wilma covers Pebbles of many pampers.
It's which's being related in the Flintstones daily strip from February 1st, 1965 (drawn by Gene Hazelton).

  7. The situations inovlved Fred & Barney in the hunting and in the sauna were reused in two Flintstones Sunday pages from 1979 (both drawn by Gene Hazelton), which are included in the Comicrazys blog (http://comicrazys.wordpress.com). Alias, in the Flintstones Sunday page from 1979 - which involves hunting -, we have a special appearance of Yogi Bear on it.
Enjoy to check these materials, OK?
