Bob Givens on the Mend

Only one artist who was not only present, but involved, in the birth of Bugs Bunny remains with us, and that’s 93 year old Bob Givens.

Bob went into hospital. Tony Benedict, the ex-Hanna-Barbera writer, has been checking on him and sent me this note:

Bob’s doing well. Hope to see him again this week. He has one more surgery to endure but seems to be in enough good physical shape to handle it. He is having blood clots removed while still cussing out the digital takeover of the cartoon industry. He is expected to fully recover.

Bob came to Hanna-Barbera from Warner Bros. with Mike Maltese in late 1958 and handled layouts on the Quick Draw McGraw series for part of the first season. He then left the studio to work on the TV “Popeye” cartoons.

We’ll let you know if we hear more.

He worked on Jack Kinney's Popeyes, not Larry Harmon's.
