The funny thing is, Alan Oppenheimer originated the voice on a couple episodes of Scooby-Doo in 1976. The episodes are "The Gruesome Game of the Gator Ghoul" and "The Headless Horseman of Halloween". Scooby-Dum next appeared in a couple of 1977 episodes "The Chiller Diller Movie Thriller" and "Vampire Bats and Scaredy Cats". In those appearances he sounded slightly different from 1976 but perhaps still voiced by Alan Oppenheimer (shades of Cringer from "He-Man" can be heard coming out of Scooby-Dum's mouth in the Chiller Movie Thriller episode). The thing that started the ball rolling of giving Daws sole credit as the voice of Scooby-Dum during the last several decades is another cartoon associated with Scooby-Doo....Daws happened to voice Scooby-Dum in the "Laff-a-Lympics" series. You can tell it's Daws because it's almost identical to his vocalization for Quick Draw McGraw. So, yes, Alan Oppenheimer voiced Scooby-Dum on 4 episodes of Scooby-Doo during 1976-1977 but Daws voiced the character in the Laff-a-Lympics series.ACcountryFanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14445878735424575807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403931334822730200.post-52687256982568714742014-08-22T07:17:06.212-07:002014-08-22T07:17:06.212-07:00YOWP, it's very interesting to note, that alth...YOWP, it's very interesting to note, that although they Daws guest starred on ''Flintostones'' and ''Top Cat'' and they Hanna-Barbera didn't want him on series like ''Space Ghost'' and ''Scooby Doo'', he guest starred on ''Jonny Quest''. episode "Riddle of Gold", where he played the maharajah (who was killed) and Dr. Quest's colleague.

Why didn't Daws Butler ever guest star on ''Scooby-Doo'' (someone wrote that he played Scooby-Dum, but that was Alan Oppenheimer).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403931334822730200.post-29187823830735509562014-08-22T05:25:50.630-07:002014-08-22T05:25:50.630-07:00“Why no Daws” in something like HONG KONG PHOOEY? ...“Why no Daws” in something like HONG KONG PHOOEY?

I’m not suggesting for a moment that he should have voiced Hong Kong Phooey the character. Casting Scatman Crothers as that voice was an out-of-the-box stroke of genius that gave an added boost at a time when H-B series needed it.

But, when you look at the long list of voice actors in the credits of that show, “Why no Daws”? At least somewhere in there, he could have been used. After ROMAN HOLIDAYS, it seems as if Daws was relegated to recreating his older characters, whenever they were dredged-up for new (and usually misguided) concepts.

And, while we’re at it, why not employ Michael Maltese to write some of HONG KONG PHOOEY?

After all, were Hong Kong Phooey and Spot REALLY that much different in concept than Quick Draw McGraw and Baba Looey – or a number of pairings of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig for that matter? A bumbling “hero” typically outshone by his sidekick.

Why did such great talents like Butler and Michael Maltese become so tragically “underutilized” in those later years? Maltese ended up going back to write for Gold Key Comics in the seventies. Probably because there was little or nothing worthy of his talents in animation and, in comics, he could go back to writing Bugs, Daffy, and Woody (which he did) and even one issue of Disney’s SUPER GOOF!

It’s a mystery to me.
Joe Torciviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00421096229407174474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403931334822730200.post-84295541767786050962014-08-21T07:42:36.394-07:002014-08-21T07:42:36.394-07:00Good point, bgrauman. The Flintstones also featured guest stars such as Hoagey Carmichael (the 1st example and featured in Hit Songwriters), Ann ("Margrock") Margaret, James ("Darrock") Darren, ("Stoney") Tony Curtis and Jimmy ("O'Neilstone") O'Neil.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403931334822730200.post-57103034906574064882014-08-20T22:46:56.533-07:002014-08-20T22:46:56.533-07:00TCJ, Jerry Eisenberg says his dad did the presenta...TCJ, Jerry Eisenberg says his dad did the presentation board for Top Cat.
