Today's Health Advice

Ads masquerading as columns were not something unheard of in newspapers. In many cases, they were labelled as an ad (in small print).

Here’s a blatant ad for Flintstones Vitamins pretending to be a news story about children’s health. It’s from the Carolina Times of February 28, 1970.

And, it’s just a wild guess on my part, but I don’t believe the artwork came from the Hanna-Barbera studio.

    In 1936-37 Fibber McGee and Molly had full-fledged Sunday Newspaper comics presumably written by Don Quinn, but at the end were obvious Johnson Wax ads. (With Harlow Wilcox appearing in a few of them..)..They were in Cleveland Plain Dealer and I am sure in other papers..

    One of THE FLINTSTONES original prime-time sponsors was One-A-Day Multiple Vitamins, manufactured by Miles Laboratories. With Flintstones kids vitamins, the relationship with Miles still exists, making it one of the longest cartoon character licenses in history!
